New Delhi: Vijay Deverakonda and Rashmika Mandanna’s Ranabaali lost ground on its second day in theatres, while Yami Gautam’s Nayyi Navelli recorded an improvement
in collections. Rajkummar Rao and Wamiqa Gabbi’s Prahaar: The Ujjwal Nikam Story also registered a modest rise, taking its two-day India net total past Rs 5 crore. The three releases are now looking to build momentum as the first weekend continues, with their Saturday performances offering contrasting signs at the box office. Let’s have a look.
Ranabaali box office collection day 2: Film sees drop after opening
Ranabaali, featuring Vijay Deverakonda and Rashmika Mandanna, arrived in cinemas on Friday but has faced a mixed response. Some viewers have criticised its use of violence and the development of its characters, even as Vijay has described it as one of the best Telugu films released this year.
According to the latest figures from Sacnilk, the film earned Rs 7.17 crore on Saturday, down from its opening-day collection of Rs 9.25 crore. Its two-day India net total now stands at Rs 16.42 crore. The decline comes at a time when the film would have been expected to gain from the weekend, making its Sunday performance an important one to watch.
About Ranabaali
Directed by Rahul Sankrityan and produced by Mythri Movie Makers, Ranabaali brings Vijay and Rashmika together on screen after their wedding in Udaipur in February. It is their first film together since Dear Comrade (2019), following their earlier collaboration in Geetha Govindam (2018). Arnold Vosloo, Easwari Rao and others also feature in key roles.
Set during the 1800s in the Madras Presidency, the film examines the impact of British colonial rule and a famine linked to grain exports to Britain. Vijay plays the titular character, who fights back against oppression after witnessing people around him suffer from hunger and starvation.
Nayyi Navelli box office collection day 2: Yami Gautam’s film records growth
Yami Gautam’s mythological fantasy thriller Nayyi Navelli has shown an upward trend in its first two days, despite opening to mixed reviews. Gautam’s performance has drawn praise, and the film has managed to improve its earnings on Saturday amid competition from other new releases.
Sacnilk’s latest update puts the film’s Saturday collection at Rs 4 crore, up from Rs 3.25 crore on Friday. With this, its two-day total has reached Rs 7.25 crore. The film was screened across 5,945 shows on Saturday, and its increase in collections gives it a stronger position heading into Sunday.
Nayyi Navelli has also moved ahead of Prahaar in the early box office race. While Rajkummar Rao’s film opened at Rs 2.35 crore, Gautam’s release has posted the higher total across the first two days of the holiday weekend.
About Nayyi Navelli
Directed by Balaji Mohan and written by Himanshu Sharma and Divy Nidhi Sharma, the film also features Addinath M Kothare, Anurag Thakur, Sunita Rajwar, Mita Vashisht, Aaditya Kulshreshth, Susmita Mukherjee and Pratiek Pachori. Aanand L Rai and Himanshu Sharma have produced the project, with GV Prakash Kumar composing the music.
Set in Meerut, the story follows a seemingly perfect bride, played by Gautam, who brings order to a chaotic household. Her efforts initially make the home appear idyllic, but her brother-in-law begins to suspect that she may be a daayan, or witch.
Prahaar box office collection day 2: Rajkummar Rao’s film crosses Rs 5 crore
Prahaar: The Ujjwal Nikam Story has recorded a modest rise in its second day of release. The courtroom drama, starring Rajkummar Rao as public prosecutor Ujjwal Nikam, opened at Rs 2.35 crore on Friday before collecting Rs 3.15 crore on Saturday. Its two-day India net total now stands at Rs 5.50 crore.
The film is competing with several new releases, including Nayyi Navelli, Jailer 2 and Ranabaali. Its opening has also fallen well short of Rao’s biggest opener, Stree 2, which collected Rs 51.80 crore on its first day in 2024.
All about Prahaar
Directed by Avinash Arun and produced by Dinesh Vijan under the Maddock Films banner, Prahaar: The Ujjwal Nikam Story follows the career of veteran public prosecutor Ujjwal Nikam. His work on several high-profile criminal cases, including the prosecution of Ajmal Kasab, made him a prominent figure in India’s criminal justice system.
Alongside Rao, the film features Wamiqa Gabbi, Jaideep Ahlawat, Sikandar Kher and Tarun Sharma in pivotal roles. It centres on Nikam’s professional journey and his involvement in the prosecution of Kasab, the sole surviving terrorist captured after the 26/11 Mumbai attacks, who was later convicted and executed.
