New Delhi: Ranbir Kapoor’s much-awaited epic Ramayana is all set for release this week, and while its massive star cast has already created plenty of buzz,
there is another young face joining Nitesh Tiwari’s epic. Child actor Dishita Sehgal, known for films such as Baby, Dear Zindagi, Hindi Medium and War, will be seen as the younger Surpanakha in the film.
The 16-year-old actor has been working in films and advertisements since she was a little girl and may already look familiar to many viewers. Remember the child from the hair-dye advertisement whose line, “Sirf 30 rupaye, mummy,” became instantly recognisable? That’s Dishita.
Her casting in Ramayana came after an extensive selection process involving multiple rounds of auditions and look tests that stretched over nearly a year.
Who is Dishita Sehgal, Ramayana’s young Surpanakha?
Dishita Sehgal began working in the entertainment industry when she was around three-and-a-half years old and has since appeared in films, television shows, short films, web series and more than 100 advertisements.
She has worked in Hindi films, including Baby, Dear Zindagi, Hindi Medium, War and HIT: The First Case. She has also appeared in the Telugu film Savyasachi. Dishita has been associated with the web series Sacred Games as well.
Away from film sets, the young actor is currently studying in Class 11 at Bombay Scottish School and remains active on social media.
Dishita Sehgal went through multiple auditions for Ramayana
According to sources, Dishita underwent several rounds of auditions and look tests before being finalised to play young Surpanakha. The entire selection process reportedly took close to a year. Casting director Mukesh Chhabra handled the casting for Ramayana, while casting coordinator Jyoti Bajaj was also involved in the process.
Dishita will essay the role of Surpanakha during the character’s younger years. Rakul Preet Singh is set to play the older version of Surpanakha in the film.
From ‘Sirf 30 rupaye, mummy’ to Ramayana
Long before Ramayana, Dishita had already become a familiar face on television thanks to her work in commercials.
One of her most remembered appearances came in a hair-dye advertisement in which her line “Sirf 30 rupaye, mummy” caught viewers’ attention. Since then, she has steadily built her acting career, sharing screen space in several major Bollywood productions. Now, playing young Surpanakha in Ramayana could introduce her to an even wider audience.
