New Delhi: With much more than 2.7 million sold since being launched in 2008, the XC60 is Volvo’s best-selling car ever. Now, it gets an electric counterpart
at a time when the brand’s EV sales have suffered a big setback. In 2025, the demand for EVs fell by 13 per cent. For the Geely-owned brand, all of it comes down to the EX60.
While a familiar name might suggest that the EX60 is related to the XC60, the models come from two very different platforms. The new one sits on Volvo’s electric-only SPA3 architecture, which means engineering doesn’t have to make many tweaks to place a combustion engine.

In terms of styling, it is similar to the bigger EX90, but it comes with electrically operated door handles, but not where they are expected to be. Volvo have ditched traditional door handles and gone for winglets into the beltline to clean up the profile, much like the Ford Mustang Mach-E. In Volvo’s case, the discreet setup makes for a low drag coefficient of about 0.26, boosting the range.
Volvo EX60 exterior and interior
The EX60 gets split front headlights, with a closed-off grille to make it apparent as an EV. At the back, you have the vertical upper taillights flanking the tailgate glass are a familiar Volvo design cue, and the rear wipers are visible, which is opposed to the trend of hiding wipers behind the roof spoilers.

Wheel sizes range between 20 and 22 inches, with EX60 Cross Country coming with an exclusive 21-inch set as well. The rugged version also comes with stainless steel skid plates and a little beefier wheel arches. Volvo have raised the CC trim by 0.8 inches, and air suspension lets for another increase of the same amount. At higher speeds, to improve efficiency, the suspension lowers itself.
On the inside, the cabin gets a neat buttonless experience, quite similar to what the German cars have. Most functions are accessed through the infotainment system, which Volvo has said has zero lag. It is also the brand’s first production model to come with Google’s Gemini AI assistant, making it easier to interact without memorising specific voice commands.

Despite recent troubles, Volvo insists that with EX60, the software issues have been resolved to a lot. A classic example was EX90, which had a lot of software issues at launch, but it has come far from that time, hopefully. Volvo have also given 28 speakers in the cabin, with four headrests, all part of the Bowers & Wilkins sound system.
This also marks Volvo’s first car to come with the Apple Music app pre-installed. The vehicle will come with Apple Music with Dolby Atmos, offering an immersive Spatial Audio experience. Apple Music will come as an app accessible through the car’s infotainment, making it available even for those not using CarPlay.

Volvo EX60 powertrain and range
The EX60 has rear and all-wheel-drive options. The base ‘P6’ comes with a single-motor configuration making 369 bhp and 480 Nm of torque, making it go from 0-100 kph in just 5.7 seconds. The rear-mounted motor draws power from an 80 kWh battery, delivering a range of 498 km, with the 20-inch wheels. The rise in wheel size decreases the range by 16 kms.
The ‘P10’ AWD comes with a dual-motor setup with a combined 503 bhp and 710 Nm of torque, going 0-100 kph in 4.4 seconds. Volvo fits a larger 91 kWh battery for an estimated range of about 514 km. The ‘P12 AWD’ produces 670 and 790 Nm of torque and does 0-100 kph in 3.8 seconds. The top trim is paired with a bigger 112 kWh battery, making for a driving range of 643 km, coming with 20-inch wheels.
Even the Cross Country comes with all-wheel drive, with buyers choosing between ‘P10 AWD’ and more powerful ‘P12 AWD’
Fast charging capability is a strong point, with P6 supporting charging speeds of about 350 kW and the higher trim handling 400 kW. For range-focused models, it can go 10-80 per cent in just 19 minutes, and a 10-minute charge adds 279 km of range. In a first for a Volvo EV, the EX60 comes with NACS, eliminating the need for an adapter to access the Tesla Supercharger stations.
