New Delhi: The United States and Iran have formally signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) aimed at ending nearly four months of conflict and paving
the way for a broader peace agreement. Signed by US President Donald Trump and Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, the 14-point framework calls for an immediate halt to military operations, the gradual reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, discussions on sanctions relief, the resumption of Iranian oil exports and negotiations over Tehran’s nuclear programme. The agreement also establishes a 60-day window for both sides to negotiate a permanent settlement, while key confidence-building measures, including easing maritime restrictions and facilitating access to frozen Iranian assets, begin to take effect.
