New Delhi: The Russo Brothers surprised Marvel fans on Monday (July 20) when they released the first trailer for Avengers: Doomsday, sparking huge excitement
across social media and among Marvel fans.
Even though the trailer received millions of views in just a few minutes and sold out all premium format tickets, some viewers criticised the visual effects for looking “unfinished” and “unpolished”.
Avengers: Doomsday trailer criticised
Soon after the trailer was released, social media was filled with comments criticising the special effects in the film. One fan wrote, “The VFX and visual quality of #AvengersDoomsday feels a bit odd and quite unpolished. Some closeup shots seem to be a bad green screen cutout with no work on refining the edges and the lighting!”

Another viewer agreed, saying, “I still felt like the VFX in some shots of Avengers Doomsday feels incomplete, definitely some work is needed for the upgrade. We still got time for it before the film releases in December. Other than that I am so looking forward to it.”

Another person mentioned, “Very mid trailer. It ain’t giving Avengers vibes. VFX looks terrible. What is happening to CGI?” while someone else added, “Doomsday visuals doesn’t justify the budget”
Not everyone was concerned about the CGI, with several fans pointing out that visual effects in blockbuster films often continue to be refined until shortly before release.

Indian fans compare it to Ramayana
The discussion was especially big among Indian movie fans, with many comparing the trailer to the newly released preview for Ranbir Kapoor starrer Ramayana and praising Nitesh Tiwari’s direction and Namit Malhotra’s production for their special effects.
Fans went on social media to compare the Hollywood visual effects with Indian ones. However, when Ramayana first teaser was released, it was too criticised for its VFX.
Many Indian users argued that Ramayana looked visually better, even though people have only seen its first teaser trailer and leaked promo videos ahead of its upcoming release on July 24. “That 1 minute leak trailer of Ramayana looks more exciting & rich than #Doomsday trailer,” one fan posted. Another wrote, “I don’t think that Ramayana VFX will be worse than this recent Doomsday trailer… If you know, you know… It’s bad as hell and they tried to hide it with multiple elements. I am comparing trailer to trailer right now.”

Another said, “I have seen Indians criticising our own movie and loving The Odyssey and Avengers and what not, while they had so many flaws too. But not a single word of criticism. Criticising something is fine, but you should show the same attitude for a Hollywood movie as well. Doomsday visuals don’t justify the budget.”

Still another post read, “People don’t even understand what a film is selling. Ramayana itself promised benchmark VFX and made its visuals the USP. When you set those expectations, audiences will judge you accordingly. And let’s be real, no one’s saying Doomsday’s CGI is out of this world.”
Even with the criticism about the trailer’s special effects, excitement for Avengers: Doomsday is still very high. Early ticket bookings for the film’s special screenings sold out very quickly when they opened on Monday (July 20). Tickets for the next major Avengers movie went on sale five months before its release on December 18.
Avengers: Doomsday gears up for December release
Different box office tracking sites reported that the film has already passed early ticket sales for Spider-Man: Brand New Day in several places and beat the advance ticket sales of The Fantastic Four: First Steps in less than two hours.
