Hyderabad: A child studying in UKG was attacked by a stray dog in Khairatabad area of the city on Tuesday morning, CCTV footage of the attack showed.
The
girl was crossing the road near her house, when the dog attacked her, resulting in severe cuts and injuries on her cheek. The dog ran off upon seeing a motorcyclist rush to the child’s rescue, while her mother hurried to her daughter’s side in the video footage.
The child is currently receiving treatment at Rainbow Hospital in Banjara Hills.
Mass stray dog killings continue:
Meanwhile, at least 200 stray dogs have been killed in Pathipaka village, Hanmakonda district of Telangana, reports said.
The incident took place last month, during Sarpanch elections, as per animal rights activists. It came to light on Sunday, after locals tipped the activists off about dogs being buried at a place close to the village.
Dog carcasses to be retrieved, buried today:
This is third such event of mass killing of stray dogs over the last two months. Incidents were reported in Rangareddy, Hanmakonda, Kamareddy, Jagtial districts.
It is the second such incident from a village under Shyampet police station limits this month. On January 9, an FIR was registered after a complaint was filed about 300 stray dogs being killed in Arepally village in the same area.
Shyampet police station SI said that the dog carcasses will be retrieved and sent for post-mortem on Tuesday.
Over 1,000 stray dogs have been killed across the state in January alone. The accused include sarpanches and ward members, who vowed to tackle the stray dog and monkey menace while campaigning for gram panchayat elections.
