India maintain dominance with 27-Test streak vs WI

• India sweeps West Indies 2-0, winning 2nd Test by 7 wickets. Rahul 58*, Sudharsan 39.

New Delhi: After a spirited fightback from West Indies in their second innings, India made light work of the 121-run target to beat the visitors by 7 wickets

in the 2nd Test at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi to clean sweep the two-match series 2-0. KL Rahul slammed an unbeaten 58, while Sai Sudharsan scored 39 as India wrapped up a comfortable chase on Day 5 to bag their second win in a row.

India extended their dominant run against West Indies by recording their 10th consecutive Test series victory against the visitors. India last lost a Test series against West Indies in 2002 and have since won their next ten series in a row. India scripted history by winning ten series in a row for the first time against any team in Test cricket.

They equalled South Africa’s record for the most consecutive Test series wins against an opposition. South Africa have also won ten consecutive Test series against West Indies from 1998. India are unbeaten against West Indies in the last 27 Test matches between the two sides, the 4th-longest unbeaten streak by any team in the longest format.

India dominated the proceedings on the first two days of the Test match at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi after a stunning 175-run knock from Yashasvi Jaiswal and an unbeaten 129 from skipper Shubman Gill propelled them to a huge total of 518 runs. India bundled out West Indies for a paltry 248 in their first innings and enforced the follow-on in search of a second consecutive innings victory, having won the first Test by an innings and 140 runs in Ahmedabad.

However, India’s hopes of an innings victory were dashed as West Indies produced an epic fightback in their second innings on Day 3. Opener John Campbell and Shai Hope slammed centuries apiece to help the visitors overhaul India’s 270-run lead before a 79-run 10th wicket stand between Justin Greaves (50) and Jayden Seales (32) on Day 4 forced the game into the final 5th day.
