An unusual incident that resembles a film plot has come to light in Karnataka’s Tumakuru, where gold and diamond jewellery worth around Rs 10 lakh disappeared
overnight from a well-known jewellery shop. Surprisingly, there were no signs of forced entry or theft, leaving the shop owner and staff completely puzzled.
The incident took place at Vishwas Jewellery, located near Caltex Circle in Tumakuru city. By the time employees opened the store the next morning, several valuable ornaments, including diamond and gold jewellery, had gone missing.
Jewellery disappears overnight
According to the shop staff, more than 50 grams of diamond and gold jewellery had vanished. The missing items included necklaces and rings with an estimated value of nearly Rs 10 lakh.
Since the shop’s shutters were intact and there was no evidence that anyone had entered the premises, employees were unable to understand how the ornaments had disappeared.
CCTV reveals unexpected culprit
Suspecting theft, the staff decided to examine the CCTV footage before filing a police complaint.
What they found left everyone astonished.
Instead of a burglar, the cameras showed a rat quietly moving around inside the shop. The footage reportedly captured the animal dragging pieces of jewellery one by one across the floor.
The CCTV footage revealed that the rat had carried away valuable gold and diamond ornaments without attracting anyone’s attention.
Search leads to burrow
After identifying the rat as the unlikely culprit, the shop employees traced the route it had taken and located its burrow.
They carefully dug into the hole, hoping to find the missing ornaments.
Their search proved successful, as the jewellery had been hidden inside the burrow.
Missing ornaments recovered
The employees recovered 10 rings and three necklaces from the rat’s hiding place. Fortunately, the ornaments were found safely, bringing great relief to the shop owner and staff.
The strange incident, which was entirely captured on CCTV cameras, has now attracted widespread attention on social media because of its unusual nature.
Although the disappearance initially appeared to be a major theft, the mystery ended with an unexpected discovery that surprised everyone involved. The recovery of all the missing jewellery meant the shop avoided a significant financial loss.
