Bratislava: Amid Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Bratislava, both India and Slovakia on Monday raised their ties to a comprehensive partnership.
Apart from this, both countries also signed 11 agreements in various areas like migration, digital technology, and defence. Both PM Modi and his Slovakian counterpart, Robert Fico, also agreed to work on the implementation of the India-European Union free trade agreement. It was the first visit by any Indian prime minister to the country.
“We have decided to elevate our relations to the status of a Comprehensive Partnership. This symbolises our shared beliefs, shared priorities, and shared future,” the PM said in his media statement. With the comprehensive partnership, both countries are looking to take the bilateral relationship between both countries to the next level.
Defence sector testament of deep mutual trust: PM Modi
Both prime ministers have also agreed to further increase the cooperation in the field of energy sector with an aim to promote energy security, sustainability and resilience. ‘Our defence cooperation is a testament to our deep mutual trust and strategic convergence. I am pleased that we have signed a Letter of Intent in this important sector today. This will give new momentum to joint development, joint production, and cooperation between defense industries,” the PM said.
He added, “Deep cultural and people-to-people ties between the two countries provide a strong foundation for our relations. The translation of India’s ancient Upanishads into the Slovak language is an excellent example of our cultural proximity. People of Indian origin living in Slovakia are making significant contributions to the country’s economy and society.
PM Modi on signing Letter of Intent
Pointing out on the Letter of Intent signed between both sides, he added, “I am happy that we have signed a Letter of Intent. This will give new momentum to cooperation between the defence industries of both countries in joint development and joint production. Friends, India and Slovakia are also moving forward with close coordination. We agree that all disputes and tensions should be resolved through peaceful means”.
“In 2017, Slovakia’s first satellite was launched by India. Today, India’s space sector is reaching new heights at an unprecedented pace. I invite companies from Slovakia to join this journey of development.” PM Modi further said while addressing the joint press meet.
Slovakian PM hails PM Modi’s historic milestone
Congratulating PM Modi on becoming the longest-serving elected Prime Minister of India in a consecutive term, Slovakian PM said, “I congratulate you on becoming the longest-serving consecutive Prime Minister of India. Remaining in office for 12 consecutive years in such a difficult environment and in such a diverse setting with so many political parties is akin to a political miracle.”
