New Delhi: The ceasefire between the United States and Iran has brought some relief to the world amid chaos and violence, but Israel is showing no signs
of stopping the conflict. It has reportedly and repeatedly attacked Lebanon, and Iran Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi on Wednesday slammed the aggression. He said that the US has to opt for any one of the options: It can either settle for ceasefire or continue the war via Israel.
Lebanon not part of ceasefire: Netanyahu
The latest Israeli attack in Lebanon’s capital Beirut has killed more than a hundred people. Earlier, Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said that while his country supports US President Donald Trump’s decision to suspend attacks against Iran for two weeks, the ceasefire does not include Lebanon.
According to reports, just a few hours after the ceasefire between the US and Iran was agreed upon, Israel attacked Lebanon on Wednesday out of nowhere. The strikes targeted commercial and residential areas in and around Beirut, and killed at least 112 people with hundreds of others being injured.
What has Aragchi said?
Aragchi, reacting to the Israeli attacks, took to X and wrote, “The Iran-US Ceasefire terms are clear and explicit: the US must choose—ceasefire or continued war via Israel. It cannot have both.” He added, “The world sees the massacres in Lebanon. The ball is in the U.S. court, and the world is watching whether it will act on its commitments.” Notably, he shared a post by Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif in which the latter had declared the ceasefire.

Sharif announced ceasefire
Earlier, Sharif wrote on X, “With the greatest humility, I am pleased to announce that the Islamic Republic of Iran and the United States of America, along with their allies, have agreed to an immediate ceasefire everywhere including Lebanon and elsewhere, EFFECTIVE IMMEDIATELY.”
He added, “I warmly welcome the sagacious gesture and extend deepest gratitude to the leadership of both the countries and invite their delegations to Islamabad on Friday, 10th April 2026, to further negotiate for a conclusive agreement to settle all disputes.”
