New Delhi: Several parts of southern and eastern India are bracing for more wet weather on Wednesday, November 4, as the remnants of Severe Cyclonic Storm
Murasu travel inland after making landfall along the Andhra Pradesh coast.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has cautioned about isolated very heavy downpours in coastal Andhra Pradesh and Yanam, with neighbouring regions also in line for steady showers. The cyclone struck the coast between Nellore and Narasapur, near Ongole, early Tuesday morning packing wind speeds of 100 to 110 kmph, gusting up to 120 kmph. Even as it loses intensity over land, the moisture-heavy system will continue to bring rain across multiple states through midweek.
Delhi-NCR, on the other hand, is slated to remain largely dry with mostly clear skies during the day and shallow mist in the morning. Daytime highs will likely hover between 27 degrees Celsius and 29 degrees Celsius, while night temperatures could slip to around 14 degrees Celsius to 16 degrees Celsius. Northwesterly winds will blow at around 10 kmph early in the day, picking up to 15 kmph by the afternoon before tapering off towards evening. While the mercury stays comfortable, air pollution remains an ongoing headache for the capital region.
Heavy rain watch for coastal and central belts
Apart from coastal Andhra Pradesh, adjoining districts are also feeling the brunt of the storm’s track. Rayalaseema and Telangana saw isolated heavy showers on Tuesday, alongside gusty surface winds that are expected to linger in coastal pockets.
Moving further north and east, southern Chhattisgarh is marked for heavy downpours on Tuesday and Wednesday, with fairly widespread activity continuing into November 5. Odisha is also on alert for widespread showers on Wednesday after wet spells on Tuesday.
Peninsular South set for extended wet spell
Rainfall will remain steady across the southern peninsula over the coming days. Kerala and Mahe are set to see fairly widespread to widespread showers running from November 4 right through to November 8.
Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal will likely see scattered rain on Wednesday, before a heavier, more widespread spell takes over between November 5 and 8. South Interior Karnataka is also forecast to receive fairly widespread showers across Wednesday and Thursday.
In contrast, the IMD noted that northwest, western, and northeastern India will witness no major weather disturbances through the rest of the week.
