Mumbai: The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority has expanded the city’s metro network with the launch of Metro Lines 2B and 9 on Tuesday,
strengthening suburban connectivity across the Mumbai Metropolitan Region.
The two corridors will begin commercial operations on April 8, marking another step towards a fully integrated metro system.

Metro Line 9 connects Dahisar East to Kashigaon in Mira-Bhayandar, becoming the first metro corridor in Thane district. Meanwhile, Metro Line 2B (Phase 1) links Mandale to Diamond Garden, extending services to key Harbour Line areas such as Chembur.
Both lines are being opened in phases, with full operations expected later.
Integration across key lines
Mira-Bhayander’s first line, Metro Line 9, is ready and with this Dahisar East will become the pivotal station that connects Metro Line 9, 2A and 7.

With the expansion, Metro Line 7 will integrate with Line 9, offering direct connectivity from Andheri East to Mira-Bhayandar via Kashigaon. However, Lines 2A and 7 will otherwise function as independent corridors.
An interchange at Dahisar station between Lines 2A and 7 will continue to allow seamless transfers without exiting the paid area.
Revised schedules introduced
MMRDA said revised timetables for Lines 2A and 7 will come into effect from April 8, improving frequency and streamlining operations.
Line 2A (Andheri West to Dahisar East) will run from 5:50 AM to 11 PM, with peak-hour frequency of about six minutes. A total of 289 services will operate on weekdays, 231 on Saturdays and 213 on Sundays.
The integrated Line 7 and 9 corridor (Gundavali to Kashigaon), spanning 19.79 km, will also operate within similar hours, offering peak frequency of under six mintutes. A total of 276 services will operate on weekdays, 223 on Saturdays and 205 on Sundays.
Line 2B (Phase 1), covering 5.38 km, will run from 6 AM to 10:30 PM with a frequency of around nine-and-a-half minutes. A total of 209 services will operate daily.
MMRDA Metropolitan Commissioner Sanjay Mukherjee said the phased rollout of the new metro corridors represents a key milestone in the city’s expanding network, with complete commissioning planned in stages.
He added that integrating Line 7 with Line 9, along with the launch of Line 2B, will ease passenger congestion and support the goal of creating a fully integrated metro system across the Mumbai Metropolitan Region.
