New Delhi: In a significant development, Imtiaz Ali’s upcoming release, Main Vaapas Aaunga, starring Diljit Dosanjh, is all set to release in the UAE.
The film has secured censor certificates in the key Middle East countries, paving the way for its theatrical release on June 12, 2026.
Also starring Vedang Raina and Sharvari Wagh, the film is set in the partition era and offers a layered narrative that moves between past and present, exploring themes of separation, identity, memory and emotional longing.
Main Vapas Aaunga to release in UAE
Main Vapas Aaunga, a love story set against the backdrop of the partition, has received a PG-13 certificate in the UAE. PG-13 stands for ‘Parents Strongly Cautioned’ and can be watched by children above the age of 13.
On the other hand, Oman granted it a PG-12 censor certificate and in Qatar and Bahrain, the film has been cleared with a PG-15 certificate.
A source close to the filmmaker, exclusively told News9 Digital, “The makers have got PG-12 for Oman, while Qatar and Bahrain have awarded the film a PG-15 certificate. The UAE has cleared the film with a PG-13 rating.”
According to sources, the censor approvals came without any major hurdles despite the film’s sensitive subject revolving around partition-era memories and its references to Pakistan.

The certification is also noteworthy as Indian films dealing with cross-border narratives have often faced challenges in certain international markets.
Set against the backdrop of partition, the film narrates a heart-wrenching love story about unfinished love and the emotional wounds carried across generations. The trailer introduces Naseeruddin Shah as an elderly man battling illness who begins recounting his past to the character played by Diljit Dosanjh.
As the narrative unfolds, audiences are transported into the past through the younger version of the protagonist, portrayed by Vedang Raina who romances with Sharvari.
One of the biggest attractions of the film is the reunion of the celebrated creative trio of AR Rahman, Irshad Kamil and Imtiaz Ali. The trio has previously delivered some of Hindi cinema’s most memorable musical albums through films such as Rockstar, Tamasha and Highway.
Produced by Birla Studios, Applause Entertainment, along with Mohit Choudhary and Shibasish Sarkar under Window Seat Films, Main Vaapas Aaunga is scheduled for a worldwide theatrical release on June 12, 2026. The film’s music has been released under Tips Music.
