New Delhi: Akshay Kumar and Saif Ali Khan’s upcoming movie, Haiwaan, is set to release on September 11, 2026. Ahead of its release, the film has been cleared
by the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) with UA 16+ rating.
The film also underwent through several modifications during the certification process.
What changes were made in Haiwaan?
According to certification modification, a visual in the film was suitably altered. The makers also made changes to certain words and expressions considered inappropriate.
One word was deleted and replaced with “Kamina”, while another derogatory term was replaced with “girlfriend.” Another objectionable expression was replaced with the line “Dimag ki waat laga ke rakh di.” The subtitles were also rectified wherever they did not accurately correspond with the film’s dialogues.
Haiwaan gets UA 16+ rating
Following the modifications, Haiwaan has been classified under parental guidance for viewers aged 16 and above.

Priyadarshan’s directorial Haiwaan has a runtime of approximately 2 hours and 44 minutes.

Reportedly, Haiwaan follows Shyam, a blind caretaker whose life goes upside down when he is framed in a murder. After he flees, he takes on the responsibility of protecting Pradhan’s daughter Nandini, but she is also being hunted by a vengeful killer.

Haiwaan marks the reunion of Akshay Kumar and Saif Ali Khan after 17 years. Directed by Priyadarshan, the film is produced by KVN Productions and Thespian Films by Venkat K Narayana and Shailaja Desai Fenn. It also stars Boman Irani, Shriya Pilgaonkar, Saiyami Kher, and Sharib Hashmi.
Interestingly, Akshay Kumar was not originally cast in Haiwaan and he came on board spontaneously while he was working with Priyadarshan on Bhoot Bangla.
Speaking to IANS, the director revealed, “While I was shooting Bhoot Bangla, I casually told Akshay that I was looking for a character like this and many people were not agreeing. He immediately said, ‘I will do it’. I thought if he is ready to do it, that’s fine. I can see another Akshay Kumar in my film, which I have never seen before, That excited me the most.”
