New Delhi: Diwali, the Indian festival of lights, is all about creating warmth and brightness in every space of the home. While traditional clay diyas
never go out of style, floating diyas have been trending on social media as they’re a creative and elegant addition to modern Diwali décor. These diyas not only look enchanting but also bring a serene, calming touch to your festive setup. Whether placed in wine glasses, glass bowls, brass vessels, or decorative trays, water diyas add a soft glow that instantly elevates the festive ambience.
The best part is that they are easy to make at home using simple materials like flowers, cotton wicks or threads, and decorative diyas. Step-by-step guide to make floating water diyas
1. First, gather materials like marigold or rose flowers, wine or simple glasses, a few round cotton wicks, a sheet of aluminum foil, a matchbox and oil.
2. Pack flowers tightly at the bottom of the glass vase. Otherwise, they will float as you add water.
3. Add water, and then pour a thick layer of oil. You can use any cooking oil, too.
4. Poke a tiny hole in a small sheet of aluminium foil and thread a round cotton batti or wick through it. Place it in the oil-infused water.
5. It will burn until the oil is finished.
6. Make sure your cotton batti doesn’t get any water on it.
Making floating diyas at home is a fun and creative way to celebrate Diwali while keeping your décor simple yet elegant. With just a few basic materials, you can design floating diyas that radiate beauty and positivity. So, this Diwali 2026, stand out and enjoy!
