New Delhi: Star India Virat Kohli has been officially ruled out of the three-match ODI series against Afghanistan, which will begin on June 13 in Dharamshala.
Yashasvi Jaiswal has been named as his replacement in the 15-member squad.
Chief selector Ajit Agarkar confirmed the development while announcing India’s squads for the upcoming T20I series against Ireland and England. He also remained optimistic about Kohli’s chances of playing in the three-match ODI series against England, which will be played mid-July.
“With Virat at this point, it’s just been less than a week since he injured himself in the (IPL) finals. We don’t know the timelines yet. But it looks like he might be fit for that England one-day series. It’s not a definitive answer, so don’t hold me to it. I haven’t had a clear timeline from the physio yet,” Agarkar said.
Kohli was in sensational form in the IPL 2026, smashing 675 runs at a stunning strike rate of 165.85. He played a crucial role in helping RCB to win consecutive IPL titles. Jaiswal, who is not a regular player for the Indian team in the ODI squad, scored an unbeaten hundred against South Africa in his last appearance six months ago.
The chief selector also provided an update on Rohit Sharma’s availability for the three-match ODI series against Afghanistan, and said that he will visit the BCCI’s CoE in the next two to three days. The Indian opener struggled with a hamstring issue during the IPL 2026 and missed several matches for the Mumbai Indians (MI).
“Rohit will also visit the CoE in the next two to three days. We are awaiting their final fitness clearance,” Agarkar said.
