New Delhi: Mercedes-Benz GLE has undergone a thorough revamping. In spite of coming with a mid-cycle refresh in 2024, it did start looking outdated. The
new GLE comes with a fresh design, a tweaked interior, and updated powertrains. At the top of the range, there is the 2027 GLE 580 4Matic, which comes with a revamped twin-turbocharged 4.0-litre mild-hybrid V8 unit.
All of the GLEs are limited to a top speed of 209 kph, and the SUV can tow up to 3492 kg. The brand’s 4Matic all-wheel-drive dystem which can deliver all of the torque to either axle, is standard on every trim. The GLE also gets a new transfer with a low-range reduction gear.

This unit makes 530 bhp and 749 nm of torque, which goes up from 510 bhp and 729 Nm of torque. The engine now gets a flat-plane crankshaft, with engineers upgrading quite a few components, including the injection system, intake camshaft, and cylinder head port. Mercedes has said that the SUV will do 0-100 kph in under five seconds.
For the GLE 450 4Matic, there is a revised 3.0-litre mild-hybrid inline-six engine. It still makes 375 bhp, but the torque is 559 Nm instead of 500 Nm. All of this happens because of the more powerful electric auxiliary compressor, a modified intake camshaft and reworked cylinder head ports. It can do 0-100 in 5 seconds. The GLE Coupe is the only one in the 450 4Matic trim that comes with a new inline-six engine, but there is an AMG trim.
It has the same output as the regular GLE, but takes 5.2 seconds to reach 100 kph from standing. Sitting at the bottom is the GLE 350 4Matic. The model comes with an improved 2.0-litre mild-hybrid four-cylinder engine with an electric compressor. The performance figure in this variant reads 255 bp and 400 Nm of torque, which is unchangedm however, it does 0-100 kph in 6.8 seconds, which is 0.1 seconds quicker.
Mercedes is also offering a plug-in hybrid version called the GLE 500e, which seems to be in place of the 450e. The 500e comes with the new 3.0-litre inline-six to make a combined figure of 429 bhp and 680 Nm of torque, and will go from standstill to 100 kph in 5 seconds.
Mercedes comes with 3000 New or revised components

Mercedes has said that the GLE has about 3,000 new or revised components. Outside of the revised powertrains, the GLE features new styling with updated fascias, a new front bumper, and updated lights that align more closely with the brand’s current design elements.
On the inside, the GLE gets as standard the automaker’s Superscreen, three 12.3-inch displays spanning the dashboard beneath a single piece of glass running the brand’s newest OS. The displays sit above the revised vents, but most of the inside looks familiar, including the centre console. The GLE gets two new exterior colours, Dark Petrol and Manufaktur Patagonia Red Metallic and four new 20-inch wheel designs.
Mercedes-AMG GLE 53 Hybrid

The Mercedes-AMG GLE 53 Hybrid is more powerful by a huge margin than the outgoing model. It comes with the automaker’s new 3.0-litre inline-six engine, which also features a larger intake system. Mercedes mates the engine with a 181 bhp electric motor. The 53’s combined output is 577 bhp and 749 Nm of torque, which is higher than the 429 bhp and 559 Nm of torque the 53 previously made.
As per the brand, the new GLE 53 is 0.5 seconds faster to do 0-100 kph than the predecessor, reaching the figures in 4.4 seconds. The 53 will stand out from the rest of the portfolio with an AMG-specifi grill, quad exhaust tips, and an AMG steering wheel. New colours include the Manufaktur Patagonia Red Metallic and Manufaktur Cirrus Silver Magno.
Mercedes has said nothing about when the new GLE is going to hit the showrooms, but it is a 2027 model, and it should be here sometime this year, and the pricing will be announced when the on-sale date closes in. The GLE needed a revamping for a long time, and what we have seen brings it in line with the rest of Mercedes’ portfolio. The new styling makes the 2027 GLE feel more up to date, and the more power makes it feel refreshed as well.
