Bengaluru: Karnataka Congress President D K Shivakumar took oath as the Chief Minister of Karnataka on Wednesday. He was administered the oath of office
by Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot at Lok Bhavan in Bengaluru this evening.
The new chief minister took oath of office in the name of revered seer “Gangadhar Ajja”, while holding a copy of the Constitution. As many as thirteen ministers took oath along with him, including a Deputy Chief Minister.
Earlier on May 30, Shivakumar (64), a Vokkaliga leader, was elected leader of the Congress Legislature Party the state after his predecessor Siddaramaiah’s resignation two days earlier. During Siddaramaiah’s tenure as chief minister, Shivakumar served as Deputy Chief Minister of the state.
Among those who were present on the occasion were Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, outgoing CM Siddaramaiah, AICC General Secretaries K C Venugopal and Randeep Singh Surjewala, chief miniters of Congress ruled and INDIA Bloc states. Religious leaders from all major communities were also present.
