New Delhi: The All India Trinamool Congress suffered another setback on Wednesday after Rajya Sabha MP Sushmita Dev resigned from the party and the Upper
House. This marks the second resignation from the party within a week. The first came when former Rajya Sabha chief whip Sukhendu Shekhar Ray stepped down after serving in the role for 13 years and sent a strongly worded letter to Mamata Banerjee.
Sushmita Dev confirmed quitting TMC, says, “I have left Trinamool Congress. It is a long story why I left TMC. I don’t want to be in a situation where I am in two boats at the same time. I will not comment on Mamata Didi.”

In a letter, she requested Radhakrishnan to accept her resignation with immediate effect.
Soon after resigning, Sushmita Dev also met Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, raisng speculations that she may join the BJP.
TMC’s Sushmita Dev resigns from Rajya Sabha
Dev met Vice President and Rajya Sabha Chairman CP Radhakrishnan and submitted her resignation at around 11 pm on Wednesday. The development comes amid growing political churn within the party and marks another high-profile exit from its parliamentary ranks.
The grip of Mamata Banerjee over the All India Trinamool Congress appears to be weakening, with signs of dissent emerging both within the party and in Parliament. After 61 MLAs reportedly backed rebel leader Ritabrata Banerjee, the unrest has now reached the party’s parliamentary ranks.
Sushmita Dev may join BJP
Sushmita Dev, who earlier represented Assam’s Silchar constituency as a Congress MP in the Lok Sabha, quit the Congress after losing the 2019 general election and joined the All India Trinamool Congress in 2021. She rapidly emerged as a key party leader, serving as its national spokesperson before being elected to the Rajya Sabha.
Sources indicated that she may now be headed to the BJP.
