New Delhi: Delhi and its adjoining areas could face another wet day on Saturday as the region struggles to recover from Friday evening’s continuous rainfall.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast thunderstorms, lightning and light to moderate rain at different times on September 5. It has also issued rainfall alerts across the National Capital Region.
Some parts of Delhi remained under a red alert until 12 noon. The warning indicated the possibility of intense weather. The IMD placed other areas under an orange alert.
Waterlogging hits Delhi-NCR
Continuous rain on Janmashtami caused waterlogging and traffic jams across Delhi-NCR. Several roads in Delhi and Gurugram went under water, which disrupted normal movement at major locations.
Heavy waterlogging near the Indira Gandhi International Airport also affected flight operations on Friday. Commuters faced difficulty while travelling through flooded roads around the airport terminals. The fresh spell of rain could worsen conditions in areas where water has not yet receded.
Heavy rain expected
Independent weather forecaster Navdeep Dahiya has predicted heavy rain across Delhi, Noida, Ghaziabad, Gurugram and Faridabad from Saturday afternoon until late evening. Several parts of Haryana and western Uttar Pradesh could also receive heavy rainfall.
In a post on X, Dahiya said Noida, Faridabad and Ghaziabad could record 60 to 140 mm of rain by midnight on September 5. Delhi and Gurugram may receive between 30 and 80 mm during the same period. Intermittent rain could occur during the first half of the day. Heavy downpours may follow from the afternoon until late evening, which could cause fresh waterlogging during the second half.
Delhi’s weekly forecast
The IMD expects Delhi to remain generally cloudy with moderate rain on September 5. The temperature may range from 25 to 30 degrees Celsius. Humidity could remain between 70 and 95 per cent. Generally cloudy conditions may continue on September 6, with light rain or drizzle. The minimum temperature may settle at 23 degrees Celsius and the maximum at 32 degrees Celsius. Humidity could range from 65 to 90 per cent.
Delhi may see partly cloudy skies from September 7. Temperatures could remain between 24 and 34 degrees Celsius, while humidity may range from 55 to 85 per cent. Partly cloudy skies may continue on September 8, with temperatures between 25 and 34 degrees Celsius. Humidity could remain between 50 and 80 per cent.
