Kolkata: Ever since its defeat in the Assembly polls in West Bengal, the Trinamool Congress supremo Mamata Banerjee is facing a lot of dissections within
the party. While 58 of 80 MLAs have already declared themselves a separate entity by the original TMC, a few leaders are believed to join the national Democratic Alliance (NDA) fold.
Several leaders in recent times are said to have either joined the rebels in recent times or want to join the NDA.
Below is the list of some of them
Sushmita Dev: A senior TMC leader and face of the party in Assam. She resigned from the party and Rajya Sabha on Wednesday. A former Congress leader she had later joined the TMC in June 2021. The reason for her resignation and her next move is not known yet.
Sukhendu Sekhar Ray: One of the senior leaders in the TMC, he resigned from the party on June 8. While there is still no report on whether he would join the BJP, he recently said that the people of the state have given a huge mandate to the BJP to oust the TMC from government.
Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar: A four-term Lok Sabha MP, she was among the 20 TMC MLAs who recently wrote a letter to Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla wishing to join the NDA fold. A prominent leader of TMC for several years, she had replaced Kalyan Banerjee as leader of the party in Lok Sabha. However, she was replaced after the Assembly poll results.
Satabdi Roy: An actor-turned, she recently announced her decision to join the TMC rebels who wish to be part of the NDA. Several leaders of the party have resigned since her defection. She had also made an allegation on Mamata Banerjee, saying, “didi badal gyi hai.”
Shantanu Sen: An ex-national spokesperson of TMC he resigned citing the handling of controversies by the party and joined dissidents.
Deepak Adhikari (Dev): A popular Tollywood actor and an MP from Ghatal Lok Sabha seat, he, too, distance himself from the central party command. He recently participated in a meeting of West Bengal CM Suvendu Adhikari.
June Malia: An actor turned politician, she joined the rebels who called themselves the original TMC. Like Deepak Adhikari, she too joined Suvendu Adhikari’s meeting.
Rachna Banerjee: Another actor turned politician, she was elected from Hooghly Lok Sabha constituency. She has also reportedly backed dissidents.
Firhad Hakim: A Mamata Banerjee loyalist for years, he recently resigned as Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC). It is believed that he may also join the rebels.
