New Delhi: A case of food poisoning in a village in Ahmedabad district has sent waves of shock among the people, as nearly 100 people fell ill after consuming
local snacks, an official said on Thursday.
The district epidemic medical officer, Dr Chintan Desai, revealed that 96 residents of Rajpura village were rushed to the hospital in a few hours. Out of which 38 are still admitted but are in stable condition, while others were discharged after the treatment.
How did people fall ill?
According to police information, all these people consumed ‘sev-khamani’, which is a Gujarati snack, at a religious gathering on Wednesday night. During the event, sev-khamini was served to the guests and villagers. after the program ended, people suddenly started complaining of vomiting, stomach ache and diarrhoea. A health department team even rushed to the village after the cases were reported.
As per the information shared by Desai, apart from 96 people who were taken to the hospital, 214 other villagers who consumed the snack were given primitive treatment.
Food department investigating
Given the seriousness of the situation, police and food safety officials have been informed. Infact, a team from the Food Safety Department arrived at the scene and collected the samples of food and water supplies to find the exact cause of the poisoning, as shared by an officer.
Currently, the situation is under control in the village and a health department team is monitoring the situation.
Ahmedabad Dosa batter tragedy
A three-year-old and her four-year-old sister died and their parents were hospitalised after consuming suspected ready-made dosa batter in Ahmedabad on April 2. According to police, the family didn’t report the death of the infant on April 4 and performed the rituals without informing authorities.
The daily owner said that the same batch of the batter is sold to several other customers but no one of them reported health issues. As per preliminary information shared by the police, no suspicious or toxic substance was recovered from the house. The probe is ongoing as they have sent samples from both the dairy and the residence to the forensic team.
