returning in large numbers, bringing new energy to the local tourism industry. The city’s natural beauty, colonial-era architecture, and calm environment are captivating visitors from across the world.
The presence of foreign tourists is clearly visible at Mall Road, Snow View, and Tiffin Top. Many are drawn to the picturesque Naini Lake, which remains the centrepiece of the city. Tourists say Nainital’s weather, mountain culture, and historical heritage make it a unique destination.
Foreign tourists return
Myla, a visitor from Argentina, shared her experience with News 18, saying she was mesmerized by the serene atmosphere and cleanliness of the city. She particularly admired the colorful fish swimming in Naini Lake. Myla explained that she came to India to learn about Vedic culture and found Nainital to be the perfect place to connect with nature and tradition. Sitting in a café by the lake, sipping coffee, was a memorable moment for her.
Peaceful atmosphere attracts visitors
Local resident Vinita observed that foreign tourists enjoy Nainital because it is relatively quiet compared to other crowded destinations. She emphasized that tourists prefer peaceful exploration and warned that overcharging by taxi drivers or shops could harm the city’s reputation. Soumya stressed that maintaining fair practices is essential to encourage repeat visits.
Hotel Association’s suggestions
Digvijay Singh Bisht, President of the Nainital Hotel Association, highlighted that foreign tourist numbers have steadily increased since the pandemic. He urged the government and administration to actively promote Nainital on the international tourism map. Bisht suggested improving traffic management and administrative facilities to make the city more tourist-friendly.
He also pointed out that Nainital’s organic fruits and nearby attractions like Jim Corbett National Park and Kainchi Dham should be promoted globally. According to him, Nainital’s hills resemble the valleys of Europe and Switzerland, making it a natural draw for international visitors.
Boost to the tourism economy
The arrival of foreign tourists is not only reviving hotels and local businesses but also enhancing Uttarakhand’s international image. Tourism activities generate foreign exchange and create employment opportunities, giving the local economy a much-needed boost.
