New Delhi: The Indian women’s cricket team got off to a winning start in the ongoing five-match T20I series against Sri Lanka with a thumping victory in the first
T20I at the ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium, Visakhapatnam, on Sunday. India defeated Sri Lanka by 8 wickets to go 1-0 up in the series.
India produced a combined effort with the ball to restrict Sri Lanka to a paltry 121/6 in 20 overs, before chasing down the target comfortably with eight wickets and 5.2 overs to spare. Jemimah Rodrigues was the star with the bat for the hosts as she played a match-winning knock of an unbeaten 69 off just 44 balls to power India’s chase.
Rodrigues picked up from where she had left during India’s victorious ODI World Cup-winning campaign earlier this year with her stellar knock. Her terrific 69-run knock was laced with 10 fours as she countered the Sri Lankan spinners well by bringing out the sweep.
India will look to continue their winning run when they lock horns with Sri Lanka in the 2nd T20I at the same venue in Vizag on Tuesday, December 23. The Harmanpreet Kaur-led side will be looking to bag their second win in a row to go 2-0 up in the five-match series.
