Imphal: Two houses belonging to members of the Naga and Kuki communities were reportedly set ablaze by armed miscreants in Manipur’s Taphou village, leading
to tensions in the area. The incident reportedly took place early on Monday morning.
As per the report published in India Today, the incident took place around 4:30 AM. Both houses were reportedly set ablaze by armed miscreants. The incident has led to concerns in the area among locals. The authorities have strengthened security arrangements in the area.
Tensions in Manipur village
The setting ablaze of the two houses has led to an increase in tensions among communities. Several parts of Manipur remained under the grip of tensions, with reports of frequent clashes and attacks. The authorities are continuing to assess the situation.
There has been no official statement from the Manipur Government till Monday morning. There have been no reports on possible casualties or damage of property so far, nor on those responsible for the entire incident.
Militant held in Manipur’s Thoubal district
Meanwhile, the security forces have arrested a militant from Manipur’s Thoubal district, the police said on Sunday. The militant was taken in custody over his alleged involvement in an ambush on an Assam Rifles convoy in 2021. The 28-year-old accused is a self-styled ‘captain’ in the People’s Liberation Army. He was arrested on Saturday.
“Through further questioning, it was revealed that he was part of the team that ambushed the CO of 46 AR (Assam Rifles) and 6 others in Behiang, Churachandpur on 13/11/2021,” a police statement said.
Taking to X, the Army’s Eastern Command said: “The apprehended individual is a key accused in the 2021 #Churachandpur ambush case of Colonel Viplav Tripathi, his family members and security forces.
