New Delhi: The Kempegowda International Airport in Bengaluru, turned into a mini waterfall on Wednesday night. This was after water started dripping from
the rooftop of the airport, following rainfall in the city. A video was shared on social media showing the roof leaking at the airport and it went viral in no time.
Water gushes out of manhole
The water gushing out of the holes in the rooftop was not the only problem at the airport in Bengaluru. Water was seen coming out of drainage pipes outside the airport. One manhole right outside the airport was in fact gushing so much water that the entire area around it was flooded.
A user on social media platform, ‘X’, who goes by the name Karnataka Portfolio wrote in a post, ” Today’s rainfall turned parts of Kempegowda International Airport into what felt like a mini waterfall, with water dripping from the ceiling and even coming out of drainage pipes to the outside of the airport. It caused inconvenience for passengers—raising questions like, is there any gap somewhere, and where is the maintenance during such situations?”

This is not the first time that the Bengaluru Airport has witnessed such scenes, Earlier also there were photos and visuals from the airport, which showed leaking roofs and water accumulation at the airport. The repetition of the same situation once again has raised questions regarding the metropolitan’s infrastructure.
Earlier problems at the Bengaluru Airport after rains
In May 2024 too, the Kempegowda International Airport saw a similar situation. At the time Terminal 2 of the Bengaluru Airport reported cracks, which led to water leakage, following rains.
At the time, videos on the internet showed water leaking on the baggage belt of Terminal 2. Soon after that section of the airport was closed for passengers. This terminal was inaugurated in November 2022 and was meant to handle 25 million passengers every year.
