New Delhi: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has warned of heavy rain, thunderstorms and strong winds across several parts of the country on Monday,
August 24. Delhi-NCR, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, West Bengal, Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh are among the regions expected to see unsettled weather.
The IMD’s latest district-wise warning issued on August 23 includes heavy rain and thunderstorm activity for August 24 In Delhi and nearby NCR areas including Noida, Ghaziabad, Faridabad and Gurugram, thunderstorms, rain and strong winds are expected. The forecast provided by the weather department indicates gusty winds could reach around 60 km/h in parts of the region.
Heavy rain in UP, Bihar and Jharkhand
Several districts of Uttar Pradesh are likely to experience rain and thunderstorms including Meerut, Gautam Buddha Nagar, Ghaziabad, Agra, Mathura, Kanpur, Gorakhpur, Ayodhya, Prayagraj, Varanasi and Bijnor.
Bihar is also expected to see thunderstorms, rain and gusty winds with districts such as Patna, Gaya, Gopalganj, Saran, Siwan, Darbhanga, Madhubani, Purnia, Kishanganj and Bhagalpur among those mentioned in the warning.
In Jharkhand, heavy rain and thunderstorms are forecast in parts of the state, while winds could become particularly strong in some areas.
Hilly areas under weather alert
Jammu and Kashmir could see heavy rain, thunderstorms and strong wind gusts of up to around 75 km/h in some districts including Jammu, Reasi, Rajouri, Poonch, Kupwara, Anantnag and Baramulla.
Himachal Pradesh is also on the weather watch, with Kullu, Mandi, Kangra, Hamirpur, Una, Solan, Bilaspur and other districts likely to experience rain and thunderstorms. Wind gusts could reach 60-65 km/h in parts of the state.
Rain and storms in Rajasthan, MP, Bengal
West Bengal and Punjab are also expected to receive heavy rain with thunderstorms and gusty winds. Parts of Rajasthan, including Jaipur, Kota, Ajmer, Udaipur, Jaisalmer and Bharatpur, are under warning, with winds reaching 40-50 km/h.
Madhya Pradesh could see similar conditions in districts including Bhopal, Indore, Gwalior, Ujjain, Ratlam and Shivpuri. The IMD’s warnings show that the monsoon remains active across several regions with residents in affected areas advised to remain alert during thunderstorms and strong winds.
