Kolkata: Both Sensex and Nifty were in the red in early trade on Tuesday, Dec 30. At 9:20, the penultimate day of 2025, Sensex was trading at 84,582.20,
down 113.34 points or 0.13%. On the other hand, Nifty 50 was at 25,904.35, down 37.75 points or 0.15%.
On Tuesday, GIFT Nifty was 0.08% down at 9 am, indicating a muted opening. Among the Asian stock indices, the crucial Nikkei 225 Index of Japan declined 0.1% to reach 50,465.35 at midday and the broader Topix was also down 0.1%.

The top gainers on NSE in early trade were KRISHFL-RE, SYSTMTXC, ICDSLTD, DCMFINSERV, KIOCL, VIJIFN, ASIANHOTNR, ORIENTTECH, SHIVAMILLS, TECILC, MFML, Stallion.
The markets yesterday
On Monday, Dec 29, both benchmark indices Sensex 30 and Nifty 50 began the week on a weak note. Sensex closed at 84695.54, down 345.91 points (or 0.41%), while Nifty 50 declined 100.20 points (or 0.38%) to close at 25942.10 yesterday. BSE Midcap was down 0.45% and the BSE Smallcap index was down 0.58% at close of trading. In the Sensex 30 basket, TATASTEEL (1.83%), ASIANPAINT (1.05%) and ETERNAL (0.48%) closed in the green. The stocks to close in the red the most in this basket were ADANIPORTS, HCLTECH (1.86%) and POWERGRID (1.85%). Sectors to record a gain were oil & gas (+0.29%), telecom (+0.19%) and PSU bank (+0.09%). Of the 4512 stocks traded on BSE on Dec 29, as many as 2831 stocks declined while 1495 stocks went up and 186 remained unchanged.
The value of the rupee declined 12 paise to close at 89.97 against the dollar. Asian stocks ended mixed yesterday with Nikkei 225 closing at 50,419 down by 331.39 points.
