New Delhi: RPG Enterprises Chairman Harsh Goenka has backed Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s call for austerity and responsible use of resources, asking
group companies to adopt stricter internal measures on work, travel and commuting. In a post on X, Goenka said, “We in RPG have responded to our PM’s call with austerity and responsible resource allocations. I hope other corporates will follow suit.”
The message, shared with an internal note addressed to RPG teams, signals how parts of India Inc may respond to a wider national push for cost discipline and resource control. The note asks employees and business leaders to reduce travel, promote work-from-home where possible and move future company-linked vehicles to electric or hybrid options.

RPG’s internal note calls for work-from-home
The internal note says, “As you are aware, the Hon. Prime Minister has called for a renewed national focus on austerity and responsible resource utilisation.”
RPG has asked teams to actively encourage work-from-home for employees whose roles allow it. The note says this should be done in line with the group’s remote working policy.
In many offices, even a simple review meeting can become a full travel plan. This memo basically asks teams to pause and ask, “Can this be done on video?” Most times, the answer is yes.
Travel, meetings and office movement under watch
The group has listed several steps for its organisations. These include:
- Foreign travel to be cut to the minimum
- Domestic air travel to be significantly reduced
- Intercity conferences and meetings to be avoided or reduced
- Internal reviews, interviews and routine meetings to be held virtually where possible
The note also says employees should be encouraged to use carpooling or public transport such as rail, metro and bus systems whenever viable.
EV shift inside RPG
RPG has said all future company-owned or site-leased cars should be encouraged to be electric or hybrid vehicles. The note adds, “Please accelerate the shift where pending.”
