Patna: Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar is all set to take oath as Rajya Sabha MP on Friday, paving way for his replacement to take over. Confirming the
schedule, Bihar Minister Vijay Kumar Chaudhary said that other elected MPs from the state in the Upper House of the Parliament will take oath on April 16.
He further added that Kumar will leave Patna for New Delhi on Thursday. “After having been elected to the Rajya Sabha, the chief minister is now scheduled to take oath as a member of the Upper House in Parliament. He will be leaving (for Delhi) tomorrow and will be sworn in the day after,” the JD(U) leader said as per news agency PTI.
‘Modalities for new Govt to be discussed with NDA partners’
When asked about the formation of a new government in the state, which is expected to be a BJP-led one, after the state’s longest-serving CM leaves office, he said, “That will happen in due course. Upon returning from Delhi, the chief minister will resign, and the modalities will be discussed by all NDA partners thereafter.” There are rumours floating in the corridors of power that Nitish Kumar’s son Nishant may be named as Bihar’s new Deputy Chief Minister.
Bihar’s other new Rajya Sabha MPs likely to take oath on April 16
Notably, other newly elected Rajya Sabha members from Bihar like BJP president Nitin Naveen and Sivesh Kumar, will take oaths on April 16, during a special session of Parliament. Rashtriya Lok Morcha (RLM) leader Upendra Kushwaha will also take the oath the same day.
Earlier on Tuesday, Nishant said that people won’t forget his father’s contribution to the development of the state. “People will not be able to forget the work done by my father in the last 20 years. I appeal to them to maintain their blessings on me, our party, and my father.” “I have come here after a long time,” he said while speaking to reporters at Baba Harihar Nath Temple in Sonepur.
