New Delhi:Honda has announced a recall for Rebel 500 motorcycles manufactured between April and August 2025 in India. The brand has identified a potential
issue with the handle-lock fixing nut, which may not have been tightened to the specified torque during production.
If the fastener loosens, it could potentially interfere with the motorcycle’s steering movement. Honda has confirmed that no incidents related to this issue have been reported in India as of September 30, 2026.
Honda Rebel 500 recall: What owners should be aware of
As part of the recall campaign, Honda will replace the affected handle-lock fixing nut free of charge. This is regardless of whether the motorcycle is still covered by warranty. The Indian campaign is part of a global recall and covers 96 Rebel 500 motorcycles manufactured during the affected period and sold in India. Although there have been no reported incidents in the country, Honda is carrying out the replacement as a precautionary measure.
The recall process in India will begin on November 1, 2026, at authorised Honda BigWing dealerships. Honda representatives will contact owners through phone calls, SMS or email to notify them about the campaign and arrange an appointment for the replacement.
Rebel 500 owners who want to independently confirm whether their motorcycle is included can enter its VIN (Vehicle Identification Number) in the recall campaign section of Honda’s website. Owners whose motorcycles are covered by the campaign are advised to contact their nearest BigWing dealership and schedule the replacement. The repair will be carried out at no cost.
The Honda Rebel 500 comes with a 471cc, liquid-cooled, parallel-twin petrol engine. It uses a 6-speed gearbox and produces around 46 PS of peak power and 43 Nm of peak torque. The engine is tuned for smooth, tractable performance, making it suitable for both city riding and highway cruising. The Honda Rebel 500 was originally launched in 2017 as a global model. In India, Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India launched the Rebel 500 in April 2021, brought in as a premium BigWing motorcycle.
