New Delhi: India’s export story has reached a new milestone, with total exports hitting a record $863 billion in FY 2025-26, up from $468 billion in FY 2014-15,
representing a compound annual growth rate of 5.7%. The figures were shared by Nitin Kumar Yadav, Additional Secretary at the Union Ministry of Commerce, at a convention of exporters, industry bodies and farmer producer organisations in Chandigarh on Tuesday.
“During this period, merchandise exports grew from $310 billion to $442 billion, services exports surged from $158 billion to $421 billion at a CAGR of 9.3%, and non-petroleum exports reached a new record of $387.9 billion, underscoring the depth and diversity of India’s export base,” Yadav said, PTI reported.
Trade agreements driving deeper global integration
Yadav highlighted a series of free trade agreements that have positioned India more firmly within global value chains. The India-EFTA Trade and Economic Partnership Agreement of 2025, backed by an FDI commitment of $100 billion, provides duty-free access for approximately 98% of India’s exports. The India-EU FTA of 2026, covering 27 high-income economies, is expected to support Rs 3.2 lakh crore worth of Indian exports with tariff concessions on 99% of bilateral trade by value. The India-UAE CEPA and India-Mauritius CECPA together deliver zero-duty access on 99% of India’s exports to those markets, with UAE bilateral trade already surpassing $80 billion.
Opportunities for Punjab and Haryana exporters
Yadav pointed to specific export opportunities for businesses in the region. For Punjab, key growth areas include textiles and apparel, engineering goods and agriculture and food processing. For Haryana, leading export products include Basmati rice, buffalo meat, non-Basmati rice, natural honey, dairy products and miscellaneous food preparations, with growing potential in pharmaceuticals and chemicals. The officials also inaugurated Chandigarh’s new Regional Office of the Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority during the event.
