New Delhi: Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) opener Abhishek Sharma created history during his team’s IPL 2026 clash against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB)
at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium on Friday, May 22. He scored his first IPL fifty against RCB, smashing 56 runs off 22 balls. He smacked five maximums and four boundaries during his sensational knock.
He became the first Indian batter and overall second in the world to smash 40-plus maximums in multiple T20 series or tournaments. Abhishek Sharma has smacked 43 maximums in the ongoing IPL 2026, while the opener has hit 42 sixes in 2024.
Chris Gayle is the only batter in IPL history to hit 40-plus maximums in three different seasons. He is second on the list of the most sixes in the IPL 2026, behind Vaibhav Suryavanshi, who smashed 53 maximums. The SRH opener now holds the record for hitting the most sixes against spinners in the ongoing season, having smashed 18 maximums against spin.
