Lucknow: An IndiGo flight travelling from Patna to Lucknow was forced to make an emergency landing in the Uttar Pradesh capital on Wednesday after encountering
severe weather, including a lightning strike and hailstorm. He was 75.
The aircraft, operating as flight 6E 625, suffered damage to its nose section during the incident. Despite the damage, the plane landed safely at Chaudhary Charan Singh International Airport, with all passengers and crew members unharmed.
The flight was carrying 104 passengers and six crew members when it encountered the adverse weather conditions at an altitude of around 17,000 feet.
The aircraft reached Lucknow eight minutes ahead of its scheduled arrival time. Once it landed, all passengers and crew members safely left the aircraft.
IndiGo said the relevant authorities were informed immediately following the incident.
An airline spokesperson said, “IndiGo flight 6E 625 operating from Patna to Lucknow on 07 October 2026 encountered unfavourable weather, including a hailstorm while landing, resulting in damage to the radome. The aircraft landed safely, and all customers disembarked at their destination, i.e. Chaudhary Charan Singh International Airport, Lucknow. The relevant authorities were immediately informed. The aircraft will undergo necessary maintenance and will resume operations after securing relevant clearances.”
The damaged aircraft has been taken out of service following the incident. The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has initiated an investigation into the incident.
The aircraft will not return to commercial operations until it undergoes the required maintenance and receives regulatory clearance.
Last month, another IndiGo aircraft operating from Guwahati to Bengaluru was involved in an incident during landing at Kempegowda International Airport.
The A321neo aircraft suffered what the airline described as an “Abnormal Runway Contact” while landing in gusty weather. The aircraft was subsequently grounded.
At the time, IndiGo attributed the incident to adverse weather conditions.
In a statement issued after the incident, the airline said, “An IndiGo aircraft operating flight 6E 6542 from Guwahati to Bengaluru experienced an ‘Abnormal Runway Contact’ while landing during gusty weather at Kempegowda International Airport, Bengaluru.”
