New Delhi: State Bank of India customers may face branch-level disruption for up to six days from May 23 to May 28, 2026, due to a mix of weekend holidays,
a proposed two-day staff strike and Eid-ul-Adha holidays in some regions. Branch work may be affected during this period, so customers with urgent offline banking tasks may need to plan early.
Digital banking services are expected to remain available. SBI customers can continue using net banking, mobile banking, UPI, ATMs and other online services during this period, based on the details shared in the report.
Why SBI branches may remain closed
The possible six-day disruption starts with regular bank holidays. May 23 is the fourth Saturday of the month, when banks remain closed. May 24 is Sunday, so branches will remain shut again.
The next two days, May 25 and May 26, may see disruption due to aproposed strike by the SBI Staff Federation. The strike has been called over issues linked to recruitment and selection of National Pension System fund managers. The federation has also raised concerns over outsourcing of jobs, equality-linked issues within SBI, career progression review, HRMS and other staff-related matters.
Eid-ul-Adha holidays may affect some regions
The RBI holiday calendar includes Eid-ul-Adha, or Bakrid, holidays on May 27 and May 28 in some parts of the country. In Jammu and Kashmir, banks are expected to remain closed on both days as the festival will be observed there across two days.
This means the full six-day closure may not apply in the same way across every state. Customers should check local branch status before visiting.
What customers should do now
Customers who need passbook updates, cheque-related work, locker access, cash deposit at branch counters, document submission or loan paperwork may want to finish these tasks before May 23.
Online work should continue, so routine transfers, UPI payments, ATM withdrawals and mobile banking can still be used. Still, it is better to keep some buffer. Bank holiday weeks have a habit of turning a small branch visit into a full family discussion.
