New Delhi: Mercedes-Benz has updated the electric EQS saloon for 2027. The car comes with a bigger battery, an upgraded front-end design and an electric architecture
with 800-volt technology, going up from 400 volts. As per the carmaker, more than 25 per cent of the vehicle’s components are newly made, refined or updated.
This includes the battery, which increases from 118 kWh to 122 kWh, a new two-speed rear-axle transmission and new, in-house developed electric motors. Mercedes also claims that the entry-trim EQS 450+ can go up to 925 kms as per the WLTP cycle. The present 450+ does about 627 km.
2027 Mercedes-Benz EQS design upgrades
The 2027 Mercedes EQS gets a new front-end dressing, a power dome hood and refined lighting elements. The standard car comes with a black grille with a backlit str pattern and wide chrome slats. The optional AMG Line gets a unique backlit star grill without the chrome and an illuminated central Mercedes star.
2027 Mercedes-Benz EQS interior comes with a yoke-like steering
On the inside, the automaker’s massive MBUX Hyperscreen still comes as a standard. The EV comes with a steer-by-wire system, which gets a yoke-type steering wheel and heated seatbelt.
The pricing of the EV saloon will come as the on-sale date comes closer, although it is expected to have a premium over the current lineup. The 2027 EQD will get the EQS 450+, EQS 500 4Matic (which might replace the 450+ 4Matic), and the EQS 580 4Matic. Back in the day, the EQS pioneered Mercedes-Benz’s electric journey.
The updated 800-volt architecture and the bigger battery should make for an increase in the range, and that is always a plus point for an EV in any segment. There is no official word on when the 2027 Mercedes-Benz EQS will arrive, but it can be expected to be in line with the rest of the world. In more recent times, the brand has enjoyed good fortunes in the country, with decent sales numbers. For the brand, the premium offerings have led its growth, and that is one place the brand is increasing its focus on, with the CLA lined up for a launch soon.
