Puducherry: Voting for the Legislative Assembly elections is underway in the Union Territory of Puducherry, with a robot named ‘Nila’ capturing everyone’s
attention by welcoming voters at the VOC Government School. Voting commenced at 7:00 AM and will continue until 6:00 PM this evening.

The votes cast in this election will be counted, and the results will be announced on May 4, along with the Tamil Nadu Assembly election results.

Voter and polling station details
Approximately 9.5 lakh voters are listed in the final electoral roll across the 30 constituencies in Puducherry. A total of 1,099 polling stations have been set up, including 209 sensitive polling stations. For security purposes, 45 companies of Central Security Forces have been deployed across the region. A total of 294 candidates are contesting the elections, including 117 independent candidates.
Puducherry election 2026: Constituency-wise voter breakdown
Puducherry District has 721,296 voters, Karaikal District has 155,515 voters, Yanam Constituency has 37,664 voters, and Mahe has 29,736 voters. Villianur is the largest constituency in Puducherry with 42,679 voters, followed by Ozhukarai with 39,879 voters, and Yanam with 37,664 voters. Raj Bhavan, the constituency with the lowest number of voters, has only 20,962 registered voters.
Key alliances and parties
A fierce contest is unfolding between the ruling NR Congress–BJP alliance and the Congress–DMK alliance. The ruling alliance comprises the NR Congress, BJP, AIADMK, and LJP contesting as one bloc, while the Congress, DMK, and VCK are contesting as another. The Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam is contesting in all 30 constituencies. The Naam Tamilar Katchi has fielded candidates in 28 constituencies, excluding Mahe and Yanam. The Communist Party of India is contesting independently in one constituency, while the CPI(M) is contesting independently in two constituencies.
Voting enthusiasm
Since early morning, the people of Puducherry have been casting their votes with great enthusiasm. Due to the intense heat, it is anticipated that a large number of people will cast their votes during the morning hours; voting activity is expected to slow down slightly around noon before picking up again in the evening.
