New Delhi: Iran’s President Masoud Pezeshkian on Wednesday described his country and its people as “victims of terrorism”, while speaking at the United
Nations General Assembly. He also accused the United States of not respecting international law and said that Iran must be powerful enough to deter threats.
Pezeshkian then went on to warn US President Donald Trump saying that his country would “never bend the knee” and would not surrender under any kind of pressure.
He said, “We have only defended ourselves. We are not terrorists.” He added that the “innocent people of Iran” had been the target of “cowardly attacks” and aggressions imposed upon the country. He said, “We defended ourselves with utmost strength. America and Israel attacked us.”
He said that Iran must be powerful to avoid being threatened. He also clarified that the country would not use its power to establish its hegemony. He said that the country’s defence capabilities are built to ensure that any attack on the country’s cities does not go unanswered.
The President then went on to say that Iran would not let the Strait of Hormuz be used for “aggression.”
President of Iran recalls Minab school attack
Speaking at the UNGA, President Pezeshkian also recalled the attack on the school in Minab. He was carrying a photograph showing the barbaric attack on the girls school and showed it while speaking on the UNGA podium.
Pezeshkian said, “I come from an Iran in which our esteemed Supreme Leader was assassinated without any legal framework or reason. I come from an Iran where, in truth, they bombed a school.”
Though Pezeshkian said that Iran would not surrender to the US in the ongoing war, he added that the country remained committed to finding a diplomatic solution to end the conflict.
