What is the story about?
India is expected to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the United Nations' World Food Program (WFP) on February 18 to supply 1 lakh tons of rice for humanitarian operations.
Highlighting a long-standing partnership for food security between India and the WFP, UN's Resident Coordinator in India Stefan Priesner told CNBC-TV18 that the UN looks at India as a strong partner, with over 20 events scheduled in the next few days.
He emphasized the global body's role in facilitating best practices, many of which originated in India, while stating that the visit of the UN's Secretary General and other high-level officials will highlight India's importance for the world's development.
Robust framework
While saying that the UN has always brought solutions and global best practices on the invitations of host countries, Priesner said the global body already has a robust framework document with the Government of India to govern cooperation for a period of five years, under which new analysis will start this year for a fresh document.
Appreciating the currently underway AI Impact Summit in New Delhi as a demonstration of India taking a lead in showcasing a digital revolution, Priesner said India can lead the Global South and the world in terms of actual solutions that can impact people's lives.
Pointing to a large number of AI solutions on display to accelerate welfare, he said that India and the UN already have a deep collaboration in the fields of health, environment protection, climate change, disaster risk reduction, nutrition and food security, and economic development.
