Prime Minister Narendra Modi took to social media to express deep concerns over an alleged attack on Russian President Vladimir Putin's residence in North
Russia despite a clear denial from Ukraine.
He urged "all concerned" to pursue the diplomatic path.
"Deeply concerned by reports of the targeting of the residence of the President of the Russian Federation," PM Modi wrote on X in English and Russian languages.
"Ongoing diplomatic efforts offer the most viable path toward ending hostilities and achieving peace. We urge all concerned to remain focused on these efforts and to avoid any actions that could undermine them," he added.
This has drawn a handful of sarcastic comments from netizens criticising the Prime Minister for backing Putin, who was in India this month.

The alleged attack on Putin's residence in the Novgorod region came as the US is working to broker peace talks to stop Russia's nearly four-year-long attack on Ukraine.
Russia's Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov claimed that Ukraine attacked, using 91 long-range unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) on the night of December 28-29.
US President Donald Trump said he was informed of the alleged attack by President Putin over a phone call, stating he was angered by the development, even though Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has denied the allegations.
"It's a delicate period of time. This is not the right time. It's one thing to be offensive, because they're offensive. It's another thing to attack his house. It's not the right time to do any of that," Trump told reporters on Monday, December 29.
Zelenskyy, in his defence, had said that claims of attack are a ruse to continue Russian attacks and that Ukraine would never undermine diplomacy.
