For years, India has watched Neeraj Chopra chase distances, medals and history with a calm that feels almost old fashioned in today’s loud sporting world. What remained carefully protected, however, was
his personal life. That changed gently and without spectacle when the Olympic champion tied the knot with Himani Mor. No dramatic announcement, no viral countdown, just a simple set of wedding photographs that instantly sent fans into curiosity mode. Who is the woman who shares life with India’s most celebrated javelin thrower and why did the couple wait almost a year to host their wedding receptions. The answers lie in a story rooted in discipline, sport and quiet choices.
A Wedding That Reflected Their Personalities
Neeraj Chopra and Himani Mor were married on 16 January in Solan, Himachal Pradesh, in a ceremony attended only by family and close friends. At the time, Neeraj’s competitive season was about to begin. Training schedules were tight, travel was constant and focus was non negotiable. The decision to keep the wedding private was less about secrecy and more about practicality.
Nearly eleven months later, the couple finally hosted their long awaited wedding receptions. The first was held on 25 December in Karnal, Haryana, bringing together relatives, neighbours and supporters who had followed Neeraj’s journey from village fields to Olympic podiums. Two days later, a larger and more formal reception took place in New Delhi.
Inside The Delhi Reception That Drew National Attention
The Delhi reception became a high profile affair, not because of extravagance but because of the guests who came to bless the couple. Prime Minister Narendra Modi attended the event as the chief guest at The Leela Palace, lending the evening a sense of national celebration. He later also visited the Karnal reception, where he gifted the couple a Lord Ram idol and spent time interacting with the families.
Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini attended the function, along with former President Ram Nath Kovind, Haryana Assembly Speaker Harwinder Kalyan, Rohtak MP Deepender Hooda, and BJP state president Mohan Lal Badoli.
A Menu Inspired By Home Not Hype
Food played a significant role at the Karnal event, which hosted over 2,500 guests. Catering teams were flown in from Mumbai to manage the scale, but the flavours remained close to home. The spread leaned heavily towards Haryanvi cuisine, reflecting Neeraj’s own food preferences. Earlier in the year, he had spoken about enjoying simple meals at his in laws’ home, including roti with ghee bura, chutney and seasonal sabzi.
