Maharashtra, for instance, currently operates five international airports — in Mumbai, Pune, Nagpur, Shirdi and Navi Mumbai. However, the newly constructed Navi Mumbai International Airport is yet to commence international flight operations, which is expected to begin from December 2025.
Nonetheless, at present, the only state in India that operates international flights from four airports is Kerala, which are located in Thiruvananthapuram, Kochi, Kozhikode, and Kannur. The achievement highlights Kerala's growing global connectivity, supported by its thriving tourism industry, strong trade links, and a large expatriate community, particularly in the Gulf region. With the following four international airports in operation, Kerala has set a benchmark for regional air connectivity and global outreach in India's growing aviation sector.
