The Delhi and national capital region (NCR) continued to record air quality in "very poor" category on Monday, December 22. With toxic smog covering the region, travel is expected to be hampered due to disruptions in flight and train operations.
As of 8:05 am, Delhi recorded AQI at 366 levels, according to the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB)'s Sameer mobile application. One of the pollution recording station out of 40 was not working properly in Delhi on December 22.
The Anand Vihar station recorded AQI at 404, while Bawana recorded AQI at 408. Jahangirpuri (403), Mundka (401), Narela (418), Rohini (402), and Wazirpur (405) stations recorded AQI in severe categories.
Layer of toxic smog was seen engulfing various regions in the city, with low visibility recorded in ITO, Sarai Kale Khan, Anand Vihar, Ghazipur and India Gate among others.
News agency PTI reported that dense fog has disrupted the train operations in the city, with several trains were reported to be rescheduled at the New Delhi Railway Station.
Delhi Airport, however, stated that flight operations continued normally despite the dense fog in the region.
In an advisory on X (formerly Twitter), the Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL) said, "Low visibility procedures are in progress at Delhi Airport. All flight operations are functioning normally."
Meanwhile, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a warning that thick haze is likely to continue for next two days in North India.
