Indian Railways has introduced a QR code-based grievance redressal system at catering stalls in the Chennai division. This first-of-its-kind system was announced in collaboration with RailMadad.
This innovative system enables passengers to quickly register complaints regarding hygiene and service issues, making it easier for authorities to address their concerns promptly.
The system involves scanning a unique QR code displayed at catering stalls, which directs passengers to the RailMadad portal. Here, they can log in using their mobile number and register complaints related to overcharging, food quality, hygiene conditions and other issues.
This digital initiative streamlines feedback for better service and accountability in railway catering.
In a post on X, the Ministry wrote, “In a move to enhance passenger convenience, Indian Railways has introduced a first-of-its-kind QR code-based grievance redressal system at catering stalls in Chennai division, in collaboration with RailMadad, allowing quick complaint registration on hygiene and service issues."
Meanwhile, 24x7 Digi Locker facilities have been introduced at Ratnagiri (Maharashtra), Thivim (Goa), and Udupi (Karnataka) stations. These smart lockers provide a secure, self-operated solution for passengers to store luggage.
In another update, the Ministry of Railways recently announced a new fare structure set to take effect from December 26.
Passengers will pay an additional 1 paisa per km in Ordinary Class for journeys over 215 km, and 2 paisa per km in Mail/Express Non-AC and AC classes, under the revised ticket pricing system, reported The Economic Times. Ticket rates have not increased for people traveling lesser distances than 215 kilometres.
Meanwhile, those travelling 500 kilometres without air conditioning will pay an additional ₹10.
However, the Railway has not increased the fares for suburban services and Monthly Season Ticket (MST) holders. With this change, the Railway estimates ₹ 600 crore revenue gain.
