What is the story about?
Prime Minister Narendra Modi is all set to inaugurate the Urban Extension Road-2 (UER-2) and the Delhi section of the Dwarka Expressway on Saturday, August 16. The new road links are expected to dramatically cut travel time between Noida and Indira Gandhi International Airport.
Currently, the journey from Noida to theIGI airport takes over an hour by road and often longer during peak traffic hours. With the opening of UER-2 and the Dwarka Expressway, the travel time is expected to drop to just 20 minutes.
What is UER-2?
The UER-2, which will serve as Delhi's new ‘Outer Ring Road,’ is intended to improve the link between NCR cities, including Sonipat, Panipat, Karnal, Ambala, Rohtak, Jind, and Bahadurgarh, while offering direct airport connectivity to important parts of Delhi.

It will have four to six lanes. Built at a cost of
₹ 8,000 crore, it starts at Alipur on the Delhi–Chandigarh Highway, NH-44, and goes through places like Mundka, Bakkarwala, Najafgarh, and Dwarka before joining the Delhi–Jaipur Highway at Mahipalpur. It connects NH-9 and NH-48 in the national capital.
How to reach Noida to IGI Airport in 20 mins?
At the moment, from Noida, you have to take the Ring Road or DND Flyway, pass through Ashram Chowk, then go via the Dhaula Kuan/Mahipalpur route before reaching IGI Airport. However, with the opening of the new stretch, you can reach the Dwarka Expressway directly without entering central Delhi.

This route allows you to completely bypass traffic-heavy areas like Ring Road, AIIMS, Dhaula Kuan, and NH-48.
Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini, and other MPs and MLAs from the Delhi-NCR area will all be present at the inauguration ceremony, which will be held on the expressway near Dwarka.
