As a part of its new program 'Buy International, Free Thailand Domestic Flight', Thailand is going to offer free flights to 200,000 visitors. The catch
being: These are going to domestic flights to lesser explored areas. Main aim is to attract as many travellers as possible. The plan will be in action from September to November 2025. According to reports, the Ministry of Tourism and Sports is putting THB 700 million, which is about USD 21.5 million, from the central reserve fund into this program. That money will cover the domestic flight costs. Each free round trip domestic flight is worth THB 3,500, which is about USD 107. Additionally, it includes a 20 kg baggage allowance. The airlines taking part in the campaign are:
- Thai Airways
- Bangkok Airways
- Thai AirAsia
- Nok Air
- Thai Lion Air
- VietJet Thailand
The travellers can book international flights either directly with the airlines listed above. They can also refer to online travel agents. When they arrive in Thailand, eligible visitors will get a voucher for the free domestic flight. They can use this voucher for travelling to a range of secondary destinations.
Meanwhile, Thailand set a new record as it welcomed over 11.27 million international visitors by April 20. With this, the Southeast Asian nation has contributed a substantial revenue of over 540.6 billion THB. With such big numbers, the tourism sector is playing a crucial role in the nation’s economic growth. The government is only optimistic about the number growing.
Among the international visitors, Chinese tourists were on top of the list with 1.52 million arrivals. Following China, Thailand received a decent number of visitors from countries such as Malaysia, Russia, India, and South Korea. Despite a surge in the number of tourists, there was a temporary dip in the tourist numbers after the Songkran holiday in mid-April.
