What is the story about?
The picturesque hill station of Manali in the Himalayas is a year-round destination, but the experience varies significantly with the seasons. And there's
a reason that the weeks leading up to full-blown summer is tourist hot spot's peak season. Knowing when to go then, can help you make the most of your visit.
Best Time to Visit Manali
The months between March to June are the most popular time to visit Manali, especially if you're looking for pleasant weather. The temperatures during this stretch of the year range between 15C to 30C making it ideal for sightseeing, cafe hopping as well as outdoor activities - paragliding and river rafting are particularly popular in Manali. That being said, considering Manali is thronging with tourists this time of the year, expect prices to be at an all-time high. And if contending with teeming crowds is something you can't do - this probably isn't the stretch of the year to go visit Manali. In that case, the winter stretch from December to February is a better fit - especially if you happen to be chasing snowfall. Visiting a hill station in the height of winter though, does come with its own loop holes. In the case of Manali, temperatures tend to drop below freezing, especially around January. It's a sight to behold though, as the hill top feels like a scene out of a winter wonderland movie, also making it the perfect landscape for some snow sports. Mobility and sight seeing however, do stand hostage to snowfall forecasts which often times can end up restricting roads.
The monsoon season from July to September may seem like the middle ground then, but the hill station typically welcomes moderate to heavy rainfall. The pros of this is the valley turning lush and green with markedly less crowds. The cons though outweigh the pros what with landslides and roadblocks being common. Monsoon in Manali is as off-season as it gets.
