As per a Gulf News report, the Royal Oman Police have launched new validity options and fee structures for expatriate residence cards and Omani personal
identity cards. The objective behind this has been to make renewal of these cards more convenient and efficient. The decision was issued by Lt General Hassan Bin Mohsin Ali Shraiqi. So, now expatriates can choose the validity of their foreign resident cards and pay accordingly. The validity for Omani ID cards for citizens has also been extended to 10 years. For expatriates, the fees will depend on the number of years a person will choose. However, the price range will be from 5 to 15 riyals. Also, to replace damaged or lost card, it will cost 20 riyals. The issuance, replacement or renewal of Omani personal identity cards will cost about 10 riyals. As per the Gulf News, "These amendments are designed to ease administrative processes and provide residents with flexible options to suit their needs." All residence and ID card holders must renew their documents within 30 days of expiry to remain compliant. All these amendment in policies are done so that the large expatriate community in Oman can benefit from it. It will also simplify the residency process and reduce the administrative burdens.
