Indian Railways: Cancelled And Rescheduled Trains
Indian Railways has cancelled or changed several services because of expected crowding around New Delhi (NDLS) and Hazrat Nizamuddin railway stations. Roads leading to both stations are heavily blocked because of closures nearby.Cancelled trains
Mail and Express trains due to arrive at New Delhi or Hazrat Nizamuddin between 4 AM and 2 PM on October 10 have been cancelled at their starting station. This includes trains starting from Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal and Mumbai, among them some Rajdhani Express services.
Because these trains are cancelled at the source, passengers will not be able to board them at all. If you have a ticket for one of them, check its status on the railway enquiry app or website before leaving home.
Rescheduled trains
Some long-distance trains, including a few that start in Mumbai, have been delayed or rescheduled by several hours. Check the latest timing for your train before you travel, and allow extra time to reach the station, since the roads around both stations are badly congested.
Traffic Advisory: Roads To Avoid
According to the Delhi Traffic Police, traffic will be tightly controlled or diverted around Connaught Place and Jantar Mantar between 4 AM and 2 PM on October 10.Connaught Place and Jantar Mantar
Avoid these roads during the restricted hours:
• Jantar Mantar Road and Parliament Street (fully barricaded)
• Tolstoy Marg and Barakhamba Road
• Ashoka Road and Windsor Place
• Janpath and Patel Chowk
• Connaught Place Outer and Inner Circles
Central and Old Delhi
Traffic police are turning vehicles away from these roads:
• Tilak Marg, Bahadur Shah Zafar Marg and Netaji Subhas Marg: closed or tightly controlled in both directions.
• Old Delhi: avoid Lothian Road, SPM Marg, NS Marg and Boulevard Road.
Traffic is being sent instead towards Mahatma Gandhi Marg (Ring Road), Shanti Van Chowk, Hanuman Mandir, Mori Gate Gole Chakkar and Pul Dufrin. Expect these roads to be busier than usual.
Dwarka and Yashobhoomi
In South-West Delhi, expect heavy traffic and local restrictions at Bharthal Chowk and Dhool Siras Chowk near Dwarka.
NCR Borders
Police are checking vehicles entering Delhi from Noida and Ghaziabad, so expect long delays at the Chilla Border, DND Flyway and Kalindi Kunj. Similar checkpoints are in place at the Gurugram entry points.
Roads To The Railway Stations
The roads leading to New Delhi and Hazrat Nizamuddin railway stations are badly choked because of the closures nearby. If you must reach either station, leave much earlier than you normally would.
Instructions To Follow
Make sure you keep checking the DMRC announcements before you leave on October 9 and 10. Station gates may open or close at short notice.• If your usual station is on the list, pick the nearest open station and allow extra walking time.
• Check your train status before heading to New Delhi or Hazrat Nizamuddin.
• If you are driving in from Noida, Ghaziabad or Gurugram, leave early or delay your trip until after 2 PM if you can.
• Stay away from Connaught Place, Jantar Mantar and Parliament Street unless you have something urgent.
