For anyone who’s ever had to factor in two (or more) stressful hours to get from Noida to Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport, there’s good
news on the horizon. Soon, that journey could take just 20 minutes, making travel far more easy for people living in Noida, Ghaziabad and other neighbouring areass. The new expressway starts at Alipur (Delhi-Chandigarh Highway), passes through Mundka, Bakkarwala, Najafgarh, and Dwarka, and connects to the Delhi-Jaipur Highway at Mahipalpur, right near the airport. On August 16, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the much-anticipated Urban Extension Road-2 (UER-2) and the Delhi section of the Dwarka Expressway—a mega road project set to revolutionise connectivity across Delhi-NCR. For travellers, it means less time battling traffic and more time relaxing before a flight. According to reports, UER-2 will act as Delhi’s new “outer ring road,” linking key areas of the capital directly to IGI Airport, and will offer faster access from cities like Sonipat, Panipat, Karnal, Ambala, Rohtak, Jind, and Bahadurgarh. Plus, with special connectors to the Delhi-Rohtak Highway, Sonipat Highway, Gurugram-Sohna Highway, and the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway, travellers from different corners of NCR will have smoother, more predictable journeys.
Delhi-Dehradun Expressway To Open In October; Will Have Asia’s Longest Wildlife Corridor
In other news, the Delhi Dehradun highway, which is set to reduce travel time between the two cities to 2.5 hours, is nearing completion. As per reports, this expressway will also have Asia's largest wildlife corridor for safe animal passage. For the unversed, the much talked about expressway is expected to drastically reduce travel time from 6.5 hours to 2.5 hours. Additionally, the expressway will feature six to twelve lanes, advanced safety measures, and modern facilities - which also includes rest areas every 25 to 30 miles.Having Asia's longest wildlife corridor means that it will feature underpasses, tunnel and elevated roadways for the purpose of animal crossings. The Wildlife Institute of India (WII) has recorded regular use of the corridor by elephants using their camera. Additionally, the infrastructure will feature non-intrusive yellow lighting, sound barriers to reduce noise pollution and vegetation planted all around main structures.
